Mercedes-Benz India has commenced the new year with the launch of the face lifted GLS, its flagship luxury SUV, priced between ₹1.32 crore and ₹1.37 crore. The GLS has claimed the title of the most successful large luxury SUV in India, contributing significantly to the brand’s success.
Lance Bennett, the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, revealed during the GLS facelift launch that the company plans to introduce more than 12 models in the country throughout 2024, with three of them being electric cars. This reflects a strategic move towards sustainable mobility in the luxury car segment.
Mercedes-Benz India experienced a highly successful 2023, marked by the launch of at least 10 models, including the GLE SUV and AMG C43, as well as electric cars. The year saw the delivery of over 17,000 Mercedes models, with SUVs accounting for 55% of the demand, primarily driven by the new GLC SUV.
Looking ahead, the automaker has ambitious plans for expansion in India. It aims to open 20 new workshops and extend its presence to 10 additional cities, showcasing its commitment to reaching a wider customer base. Additionally, the company plans to invest at least ₹200 crore in India to enhance production capacity, introduce new products, and incorporate advanced technologies.
Upcoming models in 2024
- Mercedes-Benz GLA facelift: Expected to be priced between ₹45 lakh and ₹49 lakh, this facelifted model will feature the current 1.3-litre turbo-petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines.
- Mercedes-Benz CLE: Set to arrive in late 2024, the CLE offers increased roominess, a larger boot space of 420 litres, and is expected to be priced around ₹1.1 crore, featuring 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engine options. The interior of the CLE closely resembles that of the C- and E-Class models, with a distinctive feature being the front seats equipped with headrest-integrated speakers, enhancing the audio experience from the advanced 17-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system.
- Mercedes-Benz GLB facelift: Anticipated to have cosmetic enhancements inside and out, maintaining the current engine options. Prices are expected to fall in the ₹65 lakh-₹70 lakh range.
- Mercedes GLC Coupe: Sharing powertrain options with the SUV, this model is likely to arrive in early 2024 with prices ranging from ₹75 lakh to ₹80 lakh.
- Mercedes-Benz EQG: An all-electric version of the iconic G Wagon, featuring a ‘G-Turn’ function. Prices are expected to be around ₹3 crore.
- New Mercedes-AMG GT: Arriving mid-year, this two-door sports coupe with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 is estimated to be priced at about ₹2.5 crore.
- Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV: An ultra-luxurious all-electric SUV, the Maybach EQS is set to offer a range of 600km, with a starting price in the ₹4 crore range.

Mercedes-Benz India’s 2024 lineup showcases a blend of luxury, performance, and sustainability, reinforcing its commitment to meeting the evolving preferences of Indian consumers. With the introduction of electric models and top-end offerings, the automaker aims to continue its successful trajectory in the Indian luxury car market.
“This year marks a special year as we celebrate 30 years of Mercedes Benz in India. We are going to invest Rs 200 crore more into our factory in Pune. This takes a total investment of Rs 3,000 crore in India now. So that’s a strong statement of intent,” Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & CEO Santosh Iyer told PTI in an interview. “The top 7-8 cities in India the penetration for luxury cars has already crossed 2 per cent and it’s a matter of time that the rest of the country also catches up,” he had said.
Following its record-breaking annual sales in India in 2023, Mercedes anticipates that electric vehicles will constitute 25% of its sales in the country over the next five years.
